The automotive lifecycle is an inspection problem in six parts

Manufacturing, logistics, dealership, insurance, service, resale. Each stage inspects the same physical object. Each records the result in its own format, to its own standard, in its own system. Nothing carries forward. The consequences are predictable. Damage introduced in transit gets argued about at the dealership. A defect missed at end-of-line surfaces two years later as a warranty claim. A dent that existed at underwriting is paid for at claim.

The failure is not detection. It is continuity.

A trained inspector at any single stage will often spot the problem. What no manual process can do is prove when the damage first appeared — and that is the question every dispute in the chain eventually reduces to.

The case for running AI inspection at every stage is not that each stage individually gets faster. It is that six stages running one objective standard produce something no manual process can generate: a continuous, dated visual history of a single vehicle. That record is what settles the transit dispute, prices the policy correctly, and lets a used vehicle sell at what it is actually worth.

Where to start

  • Start where the disputes are. The stage generating the most argument is the stage with the weakest record. That is your first deployment, and it will pay for itself fastest.
  • Instrument both ends of a handover. A single inspection tells you condition. Two inspections tell you causation — and causation is what assigns cost.
  • Insist on objective output. Severity ratings and repair-versus-replace decisions are comparable across sites and across years. Inspector notes are not.
